Charcoal Concrete Plinth: The Under-Fence Base Solution

A concrete plinth under your fence is one of the most practical upgrades you can make to a residential boundary. It eliminates the gap at the base of the fence, prevents pests from getting under, stops the fence from sitting in soil and moisture, and gives the whole boundary a clean, finished appearance.

FPM Building Supplies stocks charcoal concrete plinths for Colorbond and timber fencing projects across Victoria.

What Is a Concrete Plinth?

A concrete plinth (also called an under-fence plinth or fence base) is a precast concrete panel that sits at the base of a fence, filling the gap between the bottom fence rail and the ground.

The plinth slots into the same steel posts as the fence panels, sitting below the fence sheets to create a solid, gap-free base.

Why Use a Concrete Plinth?

Prevents pests — A solid concrete base eliminates the gap that allows dogs, cats, rabbits and other animals to get under the fence.

Protects the fence — Colorbond fence sheets that sit directly on or near the ground are prone to corrosion at the base. A concrete plinth lifts the steel off the ground, extending the life of the fence.

Handles uneven ground — On sloping or uneven ground, a concrete plinth can fill the gap that forms under the fence panels, maintaining a clean appearance without stepping the fence excessively.

Low maintenance — Concrete does not rot, rust or require painting. Once installed, a concrete plinth is essentially maintenance-free.

Clean appearance — A plinth gives the fence a solid, finished look at ground level.

Charcoal vs Plain Plinth

FPM Building Supplies stocks concrete plinths in both charcoal and plain (grey) finishes:

Charcoal — Suits Colorbond fencing in darker colours such as Night Sky, Monument, Basalt and Woodland Grey. Creates a cohesive, contemporary look.

Plain/Grey — A more neutral option that suits a wider range of fence colours and garden styles.

Dimensions

Our charcoal concrete plinths are 50mm thick and are available in standard lengths to suit typical fence bays. The 50mm thickness provides good durability while keeping the plinth manageable to handle and install.

Installation

Concrete plinths are installed by slotting them into the steel fence posts below the fence sheets. They sit on the ground (or on a prepared base) and are held in place by the posts on either side.

On sloping ground, plinths can be used to fill the gap under stepped fence panels, or the ground can be graded to suit.

Pairing with Colorbond Fencing

Charcoal concrete plinths pair particularly well with:

  • Colorbond fence sheets in Monument, Night Sky, Basalt or Woodland Grey
  • C-channel steel posts in matching Colorbond colours
  • Dark-toned paving or gravel at the fence line
