Treated Pine Fence Plinth 150×25mm: Base Your Fence Right
A treated pine fence plinth at the base of your timber fence prevents rot, keeps palings off the ground and gives your fence a clean, finished look at ground level.
A fence plinth is the horizontal board installed at the base of a timber paling fence, sitting between the bottom fence rail and the ground. It is one of the most practical additions you can make to a timber fence — protecting the palings from ground moisture, filling the gap at the base and giving the fence a clean, finished appearance.
FPM Building Supplies stocks treated pine fence plinths in 150×25mm for timber fencing projects across Victoria.
What Is a Fence Plinth?
A fence plinth (also called a base board or kickboard) is a horizontal timber board installed at the very base of a fence, below the fence palings. It sits on or just above the ground and fills the gap between the bottom of the palings and the ground level.
Why Use a Fence Plinth?
Protects the palings — Fence palings that sit close to or in contact with the ground are prone to rot and decay, even if they are treated. A plinth acts as a sacrificial board — it is the first to deteriorate, and it is much easier and cheaper to replace a plinth than to replace the entire bottom section of palings.
Fills the gap — On uneven ground, there is often a gap under the fence palings. A plinth fills this gap, preventing animals from getting under the fence and improving the appearance.
Clean finish — A plinth gives the base of the fence a neat, finished look.
Easy to replace — When the plinth eventually deteriorates, it can be replaced without disturbing the rest of the fence.
Dimensions
Our treated pine fence plinths are:
- 150mm wide — providing good coverage at the base of the fence
- 25mm thick — more substantial than a paling, providing better durability at ground level
- Available in standard lengths to suit typical fence bays
Treatment
Our fence plinths are treated pine, providing resistance to rot, decay and insect attack. For ground contact applications, H4 treatment is recommended.
Installation
The plinth is typically installed between the fence posts, below the bottom fence rail. It can be nailed or screwed to the posts, or simply rested on the ground and held in place by the fence structure.
