What Is a 100UC H Post for Fencing?
A 100UC H post used in fencing is a galvanised 100 Universal Column section configured as an H post — meaning it has flanges on both sides that allow fence rails and panels to be attached or slotted in from either direction.
Unlike the lighter C-channel posts used in standard Colorbond fencing systems, the 100UC section provides significantly greater strength and stiffness.
When Is a 100UC Post Used for Fencing?
100UC posts are typically used in fencing applications where:
- Greater post strength is required — for taller fences (over 1.8m) or fences in exposed locations
- The fence is on top of a retaining wall — where the post must also carry retaining wall loads
- Boundary conditions require it — such as fences adjacent to driveways, vehicle areas or structures
- Engineering specifies it — for fences that require a building permit or structural design
For standard residential Colorbond fencing at 1.8m height in typical conditions, C-channel posts are generally sufficient. Check with your engineer or council if you are unsure.
H Post vs C Post for Fencing
H posts allow fence panels or rails to be attached on both sides — useful where the fence changes direction, where a gate is installed, or where the post is a structural element in a retaining wall system.
C posts (C-channel posts) are the standard Colorbond fencing post, with a channel profile that the fence rails clip into from one side.
